When building my Prussian army I decided to go for cavalry units of 18 figs based in twos so nine bases per unit with three bases or six figs per squadron
I fought my first battle with them yesterday and immediately hit a problem. They are 28mm figs based 50x50mm. The problem was that the frontage was too wide in a single line at 450mm! And when I came to put them in two lines, one of six bases (two squadrons of three bases) with three bases in second row as an alternative , my opponent pointed out that I was in an attack column and had to suffer as a result or that the formation was illegal because I had two squadrons up front in line and a third squadron behind and so was neither line nor attack column.
Aside from the fact that I should have checked the frontage before going for 18's (stupid of me I know) can anyone offer some guidance here?
Should I simply reduce my units to twelve figs - six bases of two to give say two squadrons of six figures and so reduce the frontage and allow two equal ranks one behind other, or sixteens -( which will throw the squadron sizes out) ?
The answer to this is probably staring me in the face, but I just can't see it🤔
Hi Ady Thanks for the reply. I can imagine you have indeed been a bit busy of late - I'm looking forward to receiving my copy of OtH 2 as well. After further thought I had decided to drop down to units of 12 and your reply confirms my feelings. Thanks again. Keith
